As fax prices decline, sales of faxes hit volume highs in U.S. marketplace

Article Abstract:

Volume sales of faxes in 1997 rose by 31% to a record high of 4.8 million units led by plain-paper faxes with thermal-transfer and ink-jet recording. Unit placements increase 61% reaching over 3 million units. Laser fax placements hiked 17% while the sales of light-emitting diode (LED) models declined. The sales of thermal printing faxes fell 10% to 1.4 million units supporting speculations that the type would soon be phased out. Sales of low-end faxes, priced below $350 each, grew significantly by 81% to 2.9 million units.
