Automation Outlook: The Development of Software Standards Depends on the Adoption of Standardized Programming Techniques

Article Abstract:

Software standards are needed so that information systems can be developed using full capabilities promised by vendors. One major hindrance to the compatibility of software programs is the large number of programming languages. While it is doubtful a universal programming language could exist it is helpful to know that certain languages are more appropriate for certain applications. C Programming Language, for example, was used to create the UNIX operating system, is the basis for UNIX's portability, and emulates many features of low-level languages while being easier to implement. Needed for software standardization is the development of a programming methodology that allows older programs, written in C, to be compiled in newer, more efficient program languages, easily and economically.
