Bethlehem Steel outsources training

Article Abstract:

Bethlehem Steel has tapped the services of Global Knowledge Network to train its electronic technicians who support its VAX computers. Week-long courses on-site for classes of 15 to 16 technicians were conducted by Global Knowledge during 1995 and 1996. Aside from basic VAX training, most of the technicians undergone an advanced VAX course. With 100 technicians trained by Global Knowledge, Bethlehem Steel is able to operate efficiently a three-and-a-half-mile-long processing plant that converts iron ore into finished product.

Options abound for certification training

Article Abstract:

A number of independent training vendors are offering new courses and certification options as they signed new deals with application software developers. Microsoft Corp has recently approved PTS Learning Systems, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc and MaxIT Corp as Independent Course Vendors to offer training for Microsoft Office 97 titles. Other vendors that are offering training programs are Data General Corp's Educational Services unit, Productivity Point International and Lanop Corp.

Training hints at consolidation

Article Abstract:

The information technology training industry is undergoing consolidation as players seek mergers to create more one-stop shopping training services. One impending deal is the planned acquisition of Productivity Point International (PPI) of Hinsdale, IL, by Los Angeles, CA-based Education Technology LLC. The merger would combine PPI's 55 franchise to CRT Multimedia, a division of Education Technology's CRT Group PLC.
