Changing channels

Article Abstract:

Market research indicates that the mass market awaits fast, easy and inexpensive Internet access. WebTV's eponymous $330 set-top box makes Internet access relatively painless, as does Sega's Net Link. WebTV is also the least-expensive way onto the Internet. However, others say that because most customers will not put up with long waits, much greater bandwidth is needed. Cable companies, in particular, say that cable modems can deliver the desired Internet access. atHome partners with Cox, TCI and other cable companies to offer fast service in Baltimore and a few other areas. With market research indicating that people associate PCs with work, Internet TV companies are also trying to make their offerings more fun by adding flashy graphics and navigational aids.
