Getting a-physical

Article Abstract:

Outstanding Web sites embody whereness. They seem like real places in cyberspace. Before the Internet appeared, our whereness seemed to be bound by the space and time in which we were embodied, but this is no longer true. Now, we experience 'a-physicality,' a condition in which our whereness is located somewhere other than where-our-body-is. When we talk about a Web site, we tend to talk in terms of visiting it, or being there. Consequently, digital media producers are realizing that the best sites are those that seem like places, not just collections of text and graphics. The best sites have the look and feel of whereness.
