A portrait of the IRRA's founders as young men

Article Abstract:

Relations between union officials and management at many companies did not stabilize until the US entered World War II, with the instrument for stability being the National War Labor Board. The NWLB, was unique amony the many new government offices set up by Washington to oversee the economy during the war. The Industrial Labor Relations Ass'n was founded by NWLB 'graduates.' IRRA founders claimed they were impartial but their goal was always to reduce the violence in union-management relations, lead labor and business spokespeople towards mutual respect, and raise standards of living.

Simulating Earthquakes at Siemens

Article Abstract:

Siemans has a test facility in Munich for new products and services. The facility is aimed to simulate mechanical and climatic effects. Earthquakes can even be tested by use of a hydraulic test rig. Prototypes are thoroughly tested to national and international standards.
