Computer Makers Battle for Shares

Article Abstract:

1985 may see price distinctions between home and business computers vanish. Atari plans to release three 8-bit micros in early 1985. Commodore, Coleco, Apple, IBM, and Sinclair will also introduce new or upgraded home systems. The oversaturated educational software market grew in 1984, but did not reach the levels projected earlier. Recent introductions team publishers with 'edutainment' pros such as Jim Henson's Muppets and Walt Disney characters. Pivotal issues in the 1985 peripherals market are affordable modems and faster, less-expensive storage media. General Electric will boost the market with its line of printers, modems, monitors, and data recorders.
