Control at the Crossroads

Article Abstract:

Electronic Control Technology has grown to a point where the time and money spent on software far outweighs hardware cost. The problem now faced by control users is deciding which system to use and develop from the many new and complex systems now available. The best method for selecting and implementing a system best suited to a user's needs is to set up project milestones and monitor the performance at every stage of selection and construction. A graph shows the growth of computer control installations and block diagrams show distributed and hierarchical control systems and an example of a pipeline control system.
