New, from Wang Laboratories Inc., is the Office Assistant, an entry-level microcomputer system aimed at automating the various duties of the typical secretary. The machine runs a version of Wang's WP Plus software and is fundamentally a word processor, but can emulate the potential of a typewriter and a personal computer as well. The modular hardware configuration features a twelve-inch monochrome video screen, 256 kilobytes of random access memory (RAM), and a single 5.25-inch floppy-disk drive.

Texas Instruments has developed the Pro-Lite, a portable computer compatible with desktop personal computers. Features include a single 3 1-2-inch disk drive, 256 KB of random-access memory and a 16-bit 80C88 microprocessor. A printer can be connected through an external parallel port. The unit sells for $2,995. A photograph of the Pro-Lite is included.
