GSA Develops Efficiency Test

Article Abstract:

The General Services Administration (GSA) developed recommendations to access the cost-efficient use of word processing equipment. Available in the publication called 'Simplified Methods for Evaluating the Cost-Effectiveness of Word Processing Equipment' the recommendations suggest that managers observe activity at word processing machines every hour for five consecutive days. A second recommendation is a typed-line analysis in which total estimated lines produced at a cost-effective workstation are to equal or exceed 89,453 lines plus 1.54 times the projected annual original lines.

South Carolina's OA Proves Successful

Article Abstract:

In a report entitled 'The Office Productivity and Automation Project: The First Year', implementers of office automation in the South Carolina state government determined the key factors for success were support from senior management, office workers' satisfaction with the new technology, and the compatibility necessary to share information throughout the state government. The state's Division of Information Resource Management formed a task force to supply training and technical support. The effect of ergonomics on productivity is a major concern of the group.
