IRS Arms Auditors with Portable PC's

Article Abstract:

The IRS is starting a mass project to provide 15,000 tax auditors with portable computers to automate functions that will reduce routine tasks, reduce overhead costs, and increase accuracy. The computers will be used primarily for spreadsheet analysis and word processing. Arthur Andersen & Company, Washington, D.C., received the contract to design an Automated Examination System. Portable computers from Grid System Corp. are the hardware of choice in a pilot project of the IRS. A photograph of IRS tax auditors being instructed in the use of their portable computers is included.
