Getting the root of problem solution

The problem resolution software industry is unable to reach its full potential because of confusion among users and among vendors regarding their own market. To address this problem, the IDC's Software Support and Integration Services Group released a report, titled 'Technical Support Knowledge Systems: A Comprehensive Market Landscape of the Problem Resolution Industry.' The report aims to alleviate the confusion in growing technical support knowledge space.

Linux quiets the cynics

Article Abstract:

The increasing number of users of the open source operating system Linux has spurred the growth of applications, technical support, training and certification options and professional services for the OS. The installed base of Linux has been estimated convervatively at 7 to 10 million worldwide, while commercial shipment was estimated at around 2 million in 1997. Among the companies that are offering support of Linux are Red Hat, Caldera Systems and SuSE.

Computer Associates makes Platinum play

Article Abstract:

Computer Associates International Inc (CA) has announced a deal to acquire Platinum Technology for around $3.5 billion. Under the deal, CA will acquire all the outstanding shares of Platinum' stock at $29.95 per share. The acquisition would boost CA's software and services divisions, by adding around 1,000 employees into its ranks and Platinum's desk management product lines.
