Article Abstract:

The office environment can be stylish and promote efficiency at the same time. The German Quickboner Team first advocated the open layout plan which influenced furniture, lighting and structure. However, privacy, territory, and personal interaction are recognized as being important to employees. Office workers are becoming involved in conveying their needs. Employee satisfaction is as important as image in office design.

Job sharing has been successfully implemented at the Pfizer company by teams of secretaries. Job sharing is the staffing of one full-time job by two or more part-time employees. The criteria for success demand that the participants be compatible, conscientious, and have roughly equal abilities. Schedules must be negotiable.
