They vary from pocket computers to multifunctional computers and cover a range of prices. Businesses are primary users of hand-held personal computers. Functional capabilities include calculations and statistical applications. Hand-held personal computers are being used to improve work efficiency and the quality of work. There are charts indicating the use of hand-held personal computers.

Japan Shipped Personal Computers Worth 231.35 Billion in Fiscal 1982

There is a continued increase in the shipment of personal computers according to the Electronics Industry Association of Japan (EIA). This growth pattern is evident in the following areas: business, science, hobby and home. Eight-bit systems will continue to dominate the market until 1990. Thereafter sixteen-bit systems will dominate the market. Most sales will occur at the under 100,000 dollar price range.

Mitsumi and Hitachi-Maxell Jointly Develop Storage System for Personal Computers

The Quick Disk Drive and Quick Disk are a joint development by Mitsumi Electric and Hitachi Maxell. This storage system employs a spiral tracking method for a higher reliability. It will be used as a storage system alternative to data recorders for personal computers, electronic typewriters and other electronic devices.
