James Tye on the Safety Crusade

Article Abstract:

For over twenty-five years, James Tye, Director General of the British Safety Council, has used a variety of unique publicity events and public appearances to preach the values of better safety standards in industry and in the home. Over the years Mr. Tye has made many disinterested people in industry and government pay attention to unsafe consumer products, fire safety and dangerous toys. In conjunction with this publicity program the British Safety Council trains over 20,000 people each year in shop floor safety, sponsors defensive driver courses and publicizes a campaign to reinforce safe behavior at work, in public and in the home.

Infra-Red Contributes to Safety on the Shop Floor

Article Abstract:

The C-Matic, developed by Jarneta Ltd is a guidance system for cranes and hoists. Infra-red technology allows C-Matic to guide machinery via a radio controlled device. Hazardous conditions can be ignored with a remote controlled device, where no human involvement can come in the way. Infra-red is also more accurate than the other remote controlled devices because the range is variable.
