Article Abstract:

A project is a coordinated nonroutine endeavor. A project manager, who serves as supervisor, delegator, motivator, teacher and arbitrator, is a crucial member of a systems project team. The manager oversees not only the people and technology involved, but the time and money constraints and quality of the work. The objective of the project, whether narrow or broad, the scope or nature of the project, and the objective of the system- solution must be determined. Meetings to assess progress and to review training and testing procedures help insure that the activity moves in the right direction.

The stragegies for reaching the goals of increased productivity and lowered costs through office automation should be well documented. Information is provided and tasks performed through the integration of personal computers, word processors, printers, electronic mail, facsimile and other state-of-the-art hardware which must be specified. The benefits are included in the documentation. Implementation in phases is recommended. Phase one covers basic functions; phase two covers refinements; and pahse three, complex functions.
