Behind Wall Street's wild ride

Article Abstract:

Redundancy and planning ahead are some of the strategies employed by IT managers of financial services companies to manage Wall Street's wild rides. For instance, Frederick Matteson, senior vice-president for technology services at Charles Schwab Corp, believes that network redundancy and the building of capacity are essential costs of doing business for financial services firms. Similarly, Steve Douglas, director of technology operations at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities, says that the growth of their network infrastructure is planned ahead so that it can cope with large volume trading days.
