New Product Development and Technology Licensing for the Smaller Firm

Article Abstract:

The potential demand for new product development licensing is high. Cost, knowledge, and administrative usage are major constraints of this potential. Smaller firms have problems with effective licensing, not knowing the best way to explore new products. Failure to explore potential costs may be responsible for failure of product agreements. If a smaller firm does license successfully, rapid growth could be a major advantage. Management must diversify itself to allow for new product development to continue once it has begun. Graphs are included to show the risk of licensing new product development.
