Article Abstract:

Interesting trends are predicted for the personal computer industry. Apple and IBM are expected to make more gains and MS-DOS to become the principal operating system. The 16-bit processor and windowing will become standard features. Multifunctions will be offered in packages, software will become more friendly, and hard disks will become cheaper. Compatibility problems between computers and also between operating systems will be resolved. Potential users are advised that 1984-85 is a good time to buy.

Technology Update: Laser-Readable Videodisks Now Available for Business Applications

Article Abstract:

Media Videotex offers a videodisk that can store text, graphics and moving images, plus sound, and reproduce them in various combinations on a videotex computer. Information is stored by means of minute holes in a layer of aluminum, which are read by by a laser beam. The long-lasting storage capacity makes it suitable for archival storage, electronic mail and many other applications at a price cheaper than videotape.
