Newmedia 500

Article Abstract:

Newmedia offers its annual selection of the top 500 companies in the digital media marketplace. The selection is predicated on current trends in the industry, and the most dominant of these current trends is acquisition and merger. In fact, 1997 merger and acquisition activity was up 25% over 1996, with 4,040 companies being involved. Overall, the value of these activities registered at $242.8 billion, and became a crucial stock market indicator. One major reason for this trend is that companies are using the merger process as a way to find short cuts in the research and development process, or to provide instant access to a market. For the current year, the most important companies in this sector are those that are capable of generating Internet-based services and technologies.

Finding a place for women in the world of diplomacy

Article Abstract:

Gender equity has dramatically increased over time, as shown by the increase of women accessibility in foreign policy undertakings during the Bush and Clinton administration. Aside from assuming more authoritative positions, women have also been cited as potential leaders for their forbearance in conducting international negotiations. Moreover, the increased participation of women legislators in foreign policy decision-making is likely to undermine the use of force in resolving international disputes.
