Records Automation

Article Abstract:

Records management has found a new challenge now that digitized information storage is a technological reality. Digitized information, as opposed to binary character-coded digital information, exists in memory as a binary dot pattern forming images of photographs, handwriting or type fonts. This poses several problems for information retrieval. Digitized images require much more memory to store a binary pattern than a binary code. Character and pattern recognition techniques must be developed to take advantage of the digitized information. Filing and retrieval systems must be developed to access digitized data which cannot be searched or scanned.
