SGI: the debut of a different PC

Article Abstract:

Silicon Graphics' (SGI) $6,766 320 Visual Workstation, a Windows NT workstation, is attractively designed and performs well. The product has a unique, innovative architecture, although software needs to be developed to take full advantage of it. The architecture, which SGI calls Integrated Visual Computing (IVC), uses a crossbar-style chipset that accommodates a theoretical bandwidth of 1.6GBs, compared to the 133MBs standard PCI system bus.

NTT Makes Experimental 1.5 MB Full-Wafer LSI

Article Abstract:

A full-wafer large-scale integrated circuit (LSI) has been developed by the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation. It contains 1.5 Mbits and displays image information in sixty-four colors. A self-diagnosis-switching function implements correct storage and output of image information.
