Simple Alternatives to Keyboards for Easier Entry of Information

Article Abstract:

Traditional keyboards have been a major drawback to true user-friendly personal computers. Mice and track balls are two alternatives. Most recently, touch panel devices using optical, transparent electrode, capacitance, pressure sensitive, or ultrasonic technology are making a mark. A brief description of each is given. The Minato Electronics Touch Data is an optical touch panel that is described here. Besides normal optical panels, it features an RS232C interface, the elimination of interference from outside light, and more sophisticated software and graphics. Nine diagrams are used to describe the different technologies, and a photograph of the Minato product is included.

COM Conquers the Information Explosion

Article Abstract:

New technical advancements are being made to disseminate information to all departments of a company in need of that data. In addition to the hard copy and terminal outputs, Computer Output Microfilm (COM) is also available. A mixture of these three methods is common due to their compatibility. Critical data is accessible through terminal displays. Non-critical, low-volume data is available through paper reports. High-volume, non-critical data is right for COM. Photographs and flow charts illustrate the usage of COM.
