Software: A Comprehensive Update

Article Abstract:

Several advances are being made in office software packages. The user interface of such packages has improved in consistency and intuitiveness, or how much can be accomplished without reference to the manual. Integrated packages like Lotus Symphony from Lotus Development Corp., and the acceptance of IBM's Distributed Office Support System and Document Content Architecture-Document Interchange Architecture, as industry standards, show advances in office software integration. Features now offered in personal computer software include: windowing, spelling verifiers, online help facilities and mail-merge functions. Advances in vendor training and support have offered incentives for large sales. In the future, software developers will concentrate on standards, communications, and networking. Graphs showing sales of leading software titles are included.
