Special Papers and Media for Color Thermal Printers

Article Abstract:

Increasing interest in CRT displays is pushing the demand for printers. Color ink-jet printers and thermal printers are currently two of the major technologies. There exists both coated and uncoated paper for the printers. Pigments and melting points are adjustable for individual applications in the inks. The amount of ink can vary from 2.5 to 5.5 grams of ink per square centimeter. Paper is highly specific to individual applications also. A buyer's guide to thermal printers includes product name, print method, functional specifications, noise level, and dimensions. A thermal printer print sample is also shown.

Magnetooptical Storage Devices: Blending the Best of Two Media

Article Abstract:

Magneto-optical storage devices are a combination of magnetic memory and optical memory. It is based upon the use of laser beams. This storage method provides high density, precise operation and the capability to write, read and revise information. Various improvements to the optical magnetic disk enables it to be used as digital memory and analog recording devices. It has a recording density of 500-1,000 times that of a floppy disk. These disks can be used for large capacity document, graphic and data files and digital audio recording. Tables are used to illustrate optical magnetic disks.
