Stand-Alone WP: Seeking an OA Niche

Article Abstract:

In a word processing market where personal computers are making inroads into automated offices, the dedicated word processor or text editing machine remains the best-designed system for word processing. The trend in stand-alone word processing equipment is toward integrating workstations, merging word processing and personal computer functions without diluting the integrity of either system. Multifunctional workstations are in demand to fill office automation needs. Vendors of word processing equipment are under pressure to offer a wider variety of capabilities in their office automation systems. New word processors being introduced now tend to be entry-level devices. A new entry level system from Wang is shown. Stand-alone text-editing equipment on the market today is shown in a buyer's guide chart. A variety of word processing systems is shown in photographs.
