The Office of the Next Decade (Part 1) Office Machine Production and Potential Demand

Article Abstract:

The Japenese Business Manufacturers Association (JBMA) has conducted a survey on the development of office automation equipment. The production of office automation equipment in Japan indicated an increase for 1983. Alphabet-based typewriters and word processors had a major impact on the increase of office equipment production. The growth rate is expected to remain the same for copiers, gradually increase for electronic cash registers and decrease for electronic calculators and hand-held computers. Word processors will experience a steady progress with its introduction into business. There will be a decrease in the demand for manual and electric typewriters. Charts illustrate the production rate of office automation equipment, with 1984 and 1989 as target years.
