Video Profits and Sales on Rise but Industry Debates Marketing Thrusts

Article Abstract:

The mid year outlook for video hardware dealers is optimistic. In nearly all categories sales are surpassing start of the year projections. The 13 and 19 inch range color sets lead television sales. Everyone is reporting good things about the VCR market, especially at the $499 level and below. The video camera market, with an expected volume of 550,000 units this year, is healthy. This is despite some confusion caused by the introduction of 8mm video and camcorders. Rounding out the picture, in what has traditionally been a rental business, sales efforts are expected to contribute to the pre-recorded video software market. Projected are 14 million unit sales to dealers by year end.
