White Collars, Pink Slips...And a Cloudy Outlook

Article Abstract:

Most people are occupying white collar positions in the labor market. According to statistics revealed by the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are between four and six per cent, or three million unemployed white collar workers. This article reviews the factors responsible for white collar unemployment. Two factors, the recession and office automation, have an important effect on white collar unemployment. The supply of inventory from overseas sources also contributes to a slow economic growth. Improvement in white collar employment is seen through continued expansion of high technology companies and company mergers. Evidence of white collar stability is seen in areas such as the Southeast, where high technology industries play an important role in the local environment.

Why Do We Keep Meeting Like This?

Article Abstract:

Meetings often hinder rather than help business. They must be well planned, necessary and open to free discussion. Those planning meetings should first ask themselves a series of questions as to why the meeting is being held, when it will be held, the subject, and the participants. Disorganization, schedules which are not kept, and inappropriate meeting atmosphere are common causes of unsuccessfull meetings. Everyone's opinions should be solicited. It is essential to follow-up and set clear goals, and establish a date for any subsequent meetings.
