Article Abstract:

Marine Retailers Assn of America Pres Phil Keeter says that marine dealers have to improve the speed of their trade-in reconditioning operations if they are to successfully tap the massive potential os used boat sales. A report commissioned by the Uniting the Boating Industry for Growth organization found that that sales of pre-owned powerboats reached an estimated $5.3 billion in 1997 compared to $7.2 billion in new boat sales.

Retailing' pro named West Marine president

Article Abstract:

John Edmonson was appointed president and CEO of West Marine Inc, the nation's largest specialty retailer of recreational and commercial boating supplies and apparel. He succeeded Randy Repass who founded the company in 1968. Edmonson, who took over the top post in mid-Dec 1998, intends to spend his first few months at the top post in familiarizing himself with the operations of West Marine and the industry, in general.
