A smoke-filled room

Article Abstract:

The manufactured housing industry can possibly benefit from changes that may be rendered in lending practices, including escrowing for insurance and taxes, a single standard application process, and a uniform generic manufactured housing loan application. An insurance escrow is one approach to managing the monthly payments on the loan that eliminates dissatisfaction and loan defaults. Lenders can also implement a strong, highly credible appraisal process for pre-owned manufactured homes to promote participation using certified appraisers.

Tracking MH loans after the transaction

Article Abstract:

Original lenders of manufactured housing loans (MH) usually pool the MH loans they have extended and sell them to investors through asset-backed securitization (ABS). This is a common practice among lenders because it provides immediate income and serves as an unlimited source of funds. In addition, it eliminates interest rate risk and increases the credibility of loan originators/lenders.
