Amec to land 90 million pounds sterling Manchester stadium

Article Abstract:

Manchester's 90 million pounds sterling Commonwealth Games Stadium is expected to be awarded to construction firm AMEC during May 1999, after the commissioning team assessed several firms on cost, technical expertise and ability. The stadium will accommodate up to 48,000 people and will be the centre piece for the Commonwealth Games which will be held in the year 2002. A 3 million pounds sterling project has been awarded to construction firm Alfred McAlpine to make improvements to the home ground of Manchester United Football Club.

Why the new parliament building is costing 1.2 million pounds sterling for each MP

Article Abstract:

The newly constructed Portcullis House parliamentary building in London will have cost over 250 million pound sterling by the time it is finished early in the year 2001. Professional fees alone add up to 42 million pounds sterling, with a bronze-clad roof incurring a further 13.2 million pounds sterling. Each Member of Parliament (MP) will have an extra 14,761 pounds sterling spent on office furnishings, while the total cost of the building per MP will be 1.2 million pounds sterling each.

MOD faces claim for L60 million

Article Abstract:

Building contractors Mowlem, Drake and Skull, are claiming 60 million pounds sterling for losses at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Bristol procurement headquarters construction project. Mowlem claims to have wasted money on the complex nature of the MOD's project management system, whilst the MOD is of the opinion that Mowlem, who are 9 months behind in their schedule, are at fault. The MOD is confident that the Oct. 1996 completion date will be met.
