Article Abstract:

The manufactured housing industry registered an increase in shipments for the first time in a decade. Manufactured homes shipments rose by 23.5% from 1991, with all regions marking significant increases except for the Pacific region. The South Central Region made the highest production with a 48.7% increase, followed by the Mountain region at 43.6%. The highest among the states was Oklahoma, whose shipments rose by 128%, followed by Texas at 107.9%. Manufactured homes comprised 14.9% of all housing starts and 25.8% of all new single-family homes 1992 sales. Manufactured Housing Institute Pres Jerry Connors credits the industry's upward performance to the public's increasing acceptance of manufactured homes.

Manufactured homes lead recovery of housing industry

Article Abstract:

The manufactured homes industry led the economic recovery of the housing industry in 1992 and is expected to continue its upward trend in 1993. Rising costs of other types of housing, better products and marketing, improved sites and more available financing have made manufactured homes a more viable alternative. Manufacturers are optimistic of the industry's prospects for growth in 1993. With the increasing support of financial lenders and the new administration's positive attitudes towards the industry, manufacturers may look forward to a better year.
