Ashford expects cross-marketing boost from Guild.com acquisition

Article Abstract:

Houston, TX-based Ashford.com has purchased contemporary art multichannel retailer Guild.com. The acquisition proides Ashford with $11.5 million in cash and a business model with no inventory or debt. Under the deal, Guild.com will get 8.7 million shares of Ashford stock. Ashford, on the other hand, will have access to Guild's 60,0000 customers and prospects and will add Guild.com's catalog to its online retailing operations. Both will obtain cross-marketing opportunities.

Online buying among gays a growing market

Article Abstract:

Online buying among gays and lesbian consumers is a growing market. A study from research companies Witeck/Combs Communications and Harris Interactive surveyed 2,287 people online in Jan 2001, including 137 who identified themselves as a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Results indicate that 32% of Internet users in the market spend more than 21 hours per week online, excluding e-mail use, up from 25% in Apr 2000.

Paper industry responds to e-mails

Article Abstract:

PaperExchange has reprted response rates as high as 35% for its first e- mail marketing campaign. The business-to-business marketplace for the paper and pulp industry has seven vertical markets, including recycled paper and printing and writing paper, enabling it to better target its customers. Boston, MA-based PaperExchange has sent monthly e-mails to 3,000 of its 6,000 active members since the campaign started in Jan 2001.
