Avon calling

Article Abstract:

It was unwise for Bristol, England, to reject many proposed development schemes, according to architect George Ferguson, of architectural firm Ferguson Mann. This view is shared by architect David Mellor, of Alec French Partnership, who feels that the city would have begun to suffer if a rejuvenation programme had not eventually been agreed. They both worked on a scheme to create an arts quarter from Bristol's disused Canon's Marsh docks. There was considerable mutual distrust between business and the city council at that time, according to Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiative Chief Executive John Savage.

Joint honours

Article Abstract:

It is very important that architects do not enter a competition or progress a scheme unless they are to receive a reasonable fee, according to architect Graham Morrison. This view is shared by fellow architect Bob Allies, with whom Morrison set up the Allies and Morrison architectural practice. The practice has been successful through focusing in gradual growth and on attention to detail. It has recently won the 1997 Building Award for Up-and-Coming Architectural Practice.
