Bechtel eyes UK expansion

Article Abstract:

US engineering firm Bechtel believes that it is establishing a very good reputation in the UK through its involvement in the Jubilee Line Extension in London, England. Indeed, the firm is now considering becoming involved in construction work in the UK. If it were to go ahead, it would benefit from the experience and contacts it has already built up in the UK, where it has worked on a number of key schemes. It is currently focusing on water and transportation in the UK, but is investigating all private finance initiative opportunities.

Fly-tower dilemma for ROH

Article Abstract:

Completion on a 215 million pounds sterling extension of the Royal Opera House, London could be delayed because of the discovery of faulty steel cladding covering the fly-tower. The cladding is being fitted by building material manufacturer Bison, which believes about 40% of the cladding may be affected. Costs will also be incurred by the company erecting stage equipment within the fly-tower, because the pre-measured equipment will no longer fit the distorted tower. The fly-tower will stand over 35 meters in height when finished.
