Canada adopts certification for boaters

Article Abstract:

Canada has passed a law requiring all powerboating enthusiasts to obtain safety certification. The law was passed to help stem boating accidents which annually, are placed at 6,000. The law requires those under 16 to have an operator's card and by 2009, all powerboat operators should have a certification card. Aside from the provision on cards, the law also provides mandatory age restrictions and requires dockside instruction for people who rent boats.
