CertainTeed will keep Ludowici subsidiary

Article Abstract:

The Valley Forge, PA-based Roofing Products Group unit of CertainTeed Corp has decided not to sell its New Lexington, OH-based Ludowici Roof Tile subsidiary. Ludowici, which manufactures clay roof tile, was put up for sale on Oct 1999. Its origins date back to Italy in 1500 and the US since 1888. The tile maker operates a single production facility in New Lexington and employs 137 people. It is frequently associated with many prominent residential and commercial projects across the US.

High safety marks earned by CertainTeed

Article Abstract:

Three residential shingle manufacturing plants of CertainTeed Corp have been cited by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Assn for various plant safety achievements. CertainTeed's plant in Wilmington, CA, was honored for having no OSHA recordable incident in 1999 while its Southgate plant was cited for having no lost-time accident for the past three-and-a-half years. Its factory in Portland, OR, was also given recognition for not losing time on any workplace accident for a whole year.

Breaking the mold

Article Abstract:

CertainTeed Corp of Valley Forge, PA, has developed a dimensional asphalt roofing shingle that simulates the look of wood or slate: Grand Manor Shangle in Stonegate Gray. The quality of the product has passed the high standards set by Wilmington, NC's Landfall Architectural Review Board, which previously approved only natural materials for roofing. Grand Manor is also gaining popularity for use in new homes and for reroofing of existing homes.
