Change for the better

Article Abstract:

Partnerships and independent practitioners in the UK construction industry will derive long-term benefits from new tax regulations implementing an accruals system for calculating income and expenditure. One of the most significant benefits is that small practices will be obliged to use accurate time-recording methods because they will have to calculate the value of work in progress. The new tax regulations will also bring an improvement in debt control, with fees being collected more promptly.

Balancing the budget

Article Abstract:

The April 2000 budget brought good news to small business through the introduction of lower capital expenditure taxation on communications and new technology equipment. The move is designed to encourage small firms to make full use of the internet and associated technologies. Stamp duty on residential properties over the value of 250,000 pounds sterling has been increased from 2.5% to 3% in an attempt to slow down escalating house prices and prevent the economy from overheating.
