How will self-rule affect you?

Article Abstract:

Scottish devolution will inevitably have a significant impact on how policy and legislation are decided. These changes will in turn affect the construction industry. There are a number of uncertainties regarding the industry's future in Scotland, including whether it will be able to continue doing business in Scotland with national institutions, clients and political groups in the same way as it does at present. Almost all construction companies believe that the Scottish parliament will bring more refurbishment and construction work to Edinburgh, Scotland, but there is less certainty about the longer term prospects for the industry.

Are we safer now?

Article Abstract:

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is undecided as to the benefits derived from the introduction of new European construction industry design and management regulations in 1995. Injuries and deaths in the construction industry have fallen since the introduction of the regulations although there has been a rise in the number of serious but non-fatal injuries, mainly due to increased awareness of reporting procedures.
