Chicago Marinas find privatization pays

Article Abstract:

The combined efforts of Westrec Marina Management Inc and the Chicago Park District on renovating the boating facilities along Chicago, IL's lakefront are beginning to pay off as seen in the significant increase in revenues of the eight harbors. Harbor revenues are projected to exceed $9 million in 1998 compared to 1995's $5.3 million. Renovation efforts started in Dec 1995 when Westrec took over the Park District's marina facilities under a five-year management contract.

Marina on Cape Cod redesigns fuel dock

Article Abstract:

Kingman Yacht Center, located in Cataumet, MA, has redesigned its fuel dock for better containment in the event of fuel spill. The improved dock surrounds boats with an oil-absorbent boom while the boats are taking on gasoline or disel feul. Hence, in the event a boater overfills or allows fuel to spill out of a vent, Kingman employees can close the absorbent gate, trapping the spilled fuel before its spreads.
