Collect training levy with VAT so everyone pays

Article Abstract:

The construction industry has a good record on training. Its inherant conservatism and long-established apprenticeship structure have ensured training has continued throughout the industry irrespective of economic conditions. The industry has also fought successfully to retain the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the statutory training levy. This levy, however should be collected by the same agency that collects Value Added Tax, thus all will contribute to training and the CITB will become stronger.

No wimping out on the future of industry

Article Abstract:

The decline in the UK property market is resulting in job cuts and the decrease in graduate training programmes. The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) is the only organisation within the construction industry which provides successful nationwide training, but it lacks government support. The CITB needs to become a permanent, statutory body to organise and standardise training within the industry throughout the '90s.

Why construction should go back to the classroom

Article Abstract:

The Construction Industry Training Board set up the first Construction Curriculum Centres in the UK in 1991. These centres assist in the introduction of main construction industry themes into schools. Centres loan equipment to teachers, such as computer-aided design systems. There are 50 centres in 1993 which have helped to improve the image of the construction industry.
