Compaq, Webstake strike sweepstakes deal

Compaq Computer Corp has signed a contract with New York, NY-based Internet promotions and outsourcing company Webstakes.com to start a sweepstakes program that is designed to attract small and medium-sized business firms to Compaq. The computer company's Internet site for e- business services will feature a link structured by Webstakes.com that will advertise the possibility to registered customers of winning a Compaq Presario desktop computer, which will be awarded after the campaign ends.

Fuel suppliers to bid for United deals

Article Abstract:

Chicago, IL-based United Airlines has scheduled a reverse auction online to provide suppliers with the opportunity to bid on one-year contracts worth 140 million gallons of jet fuel. The fuel jobs are intended for 14 United airport terminals and can be bid on Feb 9, 2001. United Airlines expects to save money on rising fuel costs through the online auction format. United has signed a per-gallon transaction fee deal with the exchange, American Petroleum Exchange.

Hangers wants to be McDonald's of dry cleaning

Raleigh, NC-based dry cleaning services provider Hangers Cleaners has launched a $1-million advertising campaign in a bid to establish itself as a national chain within the traditionally fragmented dry cleaning services industry. Its campaign, which will run through Nov 2000, consists of 10,000 pieces of direct mail, print ads and a handful of Internet ads. The promotional push aims to persuade business professionals to become company franchisees.
