Direct labour set for revival

Article Abstract:

Leading construction contractors in the UK are being prompted by concerns over poor training of skilled workers and by tax changes to move away from using self-employed workers and subcontractors. They will begin to make greater use of direct labour again, thus benefiting from improved training, site management and safety. At present, there are more than 500,000 people working on a self-employed basis in the construction industry.
