Daydream believers

Article Abstract:

The notorious Hulme estate of system-built dwellings was erected in inner-Manchester during the 1960s and is being demolished to make way for a new, innovative social housing scheme. The inspiration for the Hulme Homes for Change project came from some of the existing tenants, many living alternative lifestyles, who sought to develop accommodation that would suit their Bohemian attitudes. To this end, developer Guinness Trust has built a cluster of high-density but spacious apartments with open-plan layouts.
