EPA is giving industry more time

Article Abstract:

The EPA has given the marine engine industry until the end of 2000 to develop and test the catalyst technology that would reduce boat engine emissions. The agency's decision to delay its proposed emission rule is a result of an aggressive campaign by the Assn of Marine Engine Manufacturers regarding the use of unproven catalyst technology. Although manufacturers were pleased by EPA's decision, they are still fighting its policy that would categorize some megayacht diesel engines as commercial rather than recreational.

Did Japanese pricing injure U.S. outboard makers?

Article Abstract:

The Commerce Department's decision that outboard engines from Japan were sold in the U.S. market for less than their actual value, may pave the way for a ruling by the U.S. International Trade Commission to issue to an anti-dumping duty order, after it finally ascertains that U.S. outboard manufacturers have been impacted by the Japanese imports' low pricing.
