Don't play with fire

Article Abstract:

The British Woodworking Federation (BWF), United Kingdom, is planning to recommend new procedures regarding the purchase and installation of fire door sets. At present the BWF suggests that fire door sets should be purchased as complete units to ensure that the doors will be awarded a certificate of safety. Yet problems may occur with the installation or repair of a door which would make it unsafe in a fire. The new proposals suggest that doors be numbered, labelled and checked periodically for safety.

A relationship of trust between a contractor and a subcontractor in the construction industry can be beneficial, but can also lead to insufficient recording, reporting and letter writing. This means that it can be hard to provide proof of work undertaken and expenses incurred if a dispute arises later. Subcontractors should take care to keep proper records, as failure to do so will leave them open to attempts by contractors not to meet payment demands.
