EC loses its teeth from unfair terms

Article Abstract:

The European Community has reduced the extent of its draft directive on unfair contract terms. The Directive, which has to be implemented by the end of 1994, sets minimum standards only and excludes many of the clauses which were originally affected. The Maastricht Treaty incorporates the principle of subsidiarity into European government. This means that decisions are taken at the lowest possible level. However, the British government could find this is contrary to its plans for local government, health and education policy and attitude to devolution.
