FT Mortgage Cos of Dallas, TX, has acquired McGuire Mortgage Co of Kansas City, KS, in early Jan 1999. McGuire Mortgage operates 16 branches in 11 states and presently originates loans in 20 states through its toll free 800-One-Loan program. FT Mortgage Co has originated $23 billion loans in 1998, more than double the $10 billion in 1997, while McGuire originated more than $350 million in loans in 1998.

Book Club consolidates competitors

Article Abstract:

The Audio Book Club Inc of Boca Raton, FL, will acquire Audiobooks Direct from DoubleDay Direct, a subsidiary of German publishing giant Bertelsmann. The acquisition will boost Audio Book Club's membership to 2 million and with 70,000 titles in stock. The deal also includes an Internet marketing alliance for a co-branded Web site where Audio Book Club and Doubleday will sell their products.
