IBM acquires Informix Software in $1B deal

Article Abstract:

Informix Corp has sold its database software business, Informix Software, to IBM for $1 billion in cash. Informix Software develops database management systems for data warehousing, business intelligence and transaction processing, and has an installed base of 100,000 customers worldwide. Among its customers are Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, Sears and Sabre. The acquisition allows IBM to boost its distributed database business, which enjoyed a 36% increase in revenues during 1st qtr 2001.

EDS, Sabre enter outsourcing, IT deal

Article Abstract:

Plano, TX-based Electronic Data Services (EDS) has entered into an agreement to purchase the airline business and international IT infrastructure assets of Sabre Holdings Corp of Fort Worth, TX, for $670 million. The firms will also collaborate in marketing efforts. The outsourcing deal enables EDS to provide IT services to Sabre clients US Airways and American Airlines. The deal will be finalized in the middle of 2001.

HA-LO adds online components

Article Abstract:

HA-LO Industries has acquired Westminster International Computers Inc and combined it with its brand marketing agency, Upshot, to boost its direct marketing capabilities. The move allowed HA-LO to combine Upshot's data- mining and modeling competencies with Westminster's online capabilities, thus, enabling it to deliver superior response and conversion rates to its clients.
